Daniel Jacobs vs. Peter Quillin was billed as the "Battle for Brooklyn". It lasted all of 85 seconds, but could it have gone on longer? You be the judge of that.
On Saturday night at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn-raised Daniel Jacobs and Michigan-raised but Brooklyn resident Peter Quillin engaged in the "Battle for Brooklyn" on Showtime. This was for the WBA "regular" middleweight title, which is the secondary belt to Gennady Golovkin's "super" title -- boxing's alphabet soup is bad -- but Showtime pretended this fight was for the meaningful championship.
The unbeaten Quillin entered the contest as a slight favorite against the heavy-handed Jacobs, but Jacobs seized the opportunity early and hurt Quillin with a hard right hand.
