Saturday was a triumphant night for Deiveson Figueiredo, but something was definitely missing.
The Brazilian star’s first UFC flyweight title defense couldn’t have gone better. In his first pay-per-view headliner, Figueiredo needed less than two minutes to secure a fight-ending guillotine choke against challenger Alex Perez. Normally a fast finish in a high-profile bout like that would result in a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for the victor, but Figueiredo was passed over in favor of Joaquin Buckley and Antonina Shevchenko.
However, it appears that UFC President Dana White has done right by his flyweight champion.
