UFC's No. 3-ranked bantamweight forced to undergo surgery

The No. 3-ranked bantamweight contender, who holds a win over reigning division champion TJ Dillashaw, broke his ankle last December and was expected to miss around 8-10 weeks of action. Here we are nearly eight months later and he's no closer to returning.

Now it's time to go under the knife, according to MMA Fighting.

Assuncao injured the same ankle back in December but was told he did not need surgery. However, he was recently forced to go back in a boot after he was informed he rushed back to training too soon and the ankle didn't properly heal.
