The extent of Anthony Smith’s hand injury is so severe that the top light heavyweight contender will require surgery to fix it.
Smith, who submitted three-time light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC Fight Night 153 main event, broke his hand early in the fight and will undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Prior to the bout, Smith said he want some time off and, speaking to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin in a recent interview, ‘Lionheart’ said he expects to be on the sidelines for the next six months, which could mean we won’t see the 30-year-old back in the Octagon until the new year.
