The UFC is finally heading to New York -- maybe. The promotion on Monday announced intentions to stage a major event featuring "top champions" at New York's legendary Madison Square Garden on April 23, 2016, pending the result of a federal injunction which is to be filed later this week.
Professional mixed martial arts is illegal in New York. The UFC has long lobbied for a reversal of the ban, but has been rebuffed at every turn, due largely to the efforts of the Culinary Union and its ongoing battle with UFC and Station Casino owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta.
