UFC Sao Paulo medical suspensions: Lyoto Machida out until 2018

Two fighters got long medical suspensions after UFC Sao Paulo, including headliner Lyoto Machida.

Machida suffered a first-round knockout defeat to Derek Brunson at the Ibirapuera gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was given a 60-day medical suspension, which stops him from competing again in 2017, the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) announced Monday.

Marlon Vera, who lost a bantamweight bout with John Lineker, was given a 180-day medical suspension. If an x-ray exam shows his left foot is not injured, Vera will serve a 30-day suspension with no contact for 21 days.
