SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- It was almost as if the lesson Leslie Smith gleaned from her May loss to Cris Cyborg was that she should fight in Cyborg’s style.
Competing for the first time since that high-profile TKO loss, Smith was a buzzsaw of activity in her bantamweight matchup with Irene Aldana on Saturday. And Aldana gave out her fair share of offense as well. That made for an exciting 15 minutes at Golden 1 Center.
In the end, Smith’s high volume output meant more than Aldana’s counters, as the judges gave the Northern California based fighter a unanimous decision on a pair of 29-28s and a 30-27.
