Newly minted UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith and his fellow main-eventer Volkan Oezdemir headlined a list of seven fighters to be issued potential six-month medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC Moncton.
The New Brunswick Combat Sports Commission released the event’s finalized medical suspension report to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
Smith battled back from adversity and submitted Oezdemir with a third-round rear-naked choke to emerge victorious from the main event of UFC Moncton. As a result of damage sustained in the contest, both fighters will be forced to seek doctor’s clearance on potential injuries — Smith, chest and right hand; Oezdemir, face and right ankle — or sit out 180 days before returning to active competition, per commission officials.
