UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev was cleared of any wrongdoing for a positive drug test earlier this year, according to a statement from the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
Makhachev was pulled from a proposed bout against Drew Dober at UFC on Fox 19 after he tested positive for the banned substance meldonium in an out-of-competition drug screening. According to Wednesday’s release, the Dagestani fighter ingested the substance “without fault or negligence.”
Meldonium only recently appeared on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of prohibited substances, and athletes can avoid punishment it if is established they took it prior to Jan.
