Jon Jones’ five-round title defense against Thiago Santos took its toll on his lower body, and now the reigning light heavyweight champion could be looking at a lengthy time on the sidelines as a result.
Jones, who defeated Santos via unanimous decision in the UFC 239 headliner, must have his left foot X-rayed and receive orthopedic clearance or he will be suspended until Jan. 3, a six-month term. Santos, meanwhile, requires an MRI on his left knee, which he appeared to injure during the fight, and a left-hand X-ray or he too will be sidelined six months.
