UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza headlined a list of 11 fighters to be issued extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 224. The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission released the event’s finalized medical suspension report to MMA Fighting on Monday.
Nunes defeated Raquel Pennington via fifth-round TKO to successfully defend her bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 224, while Souza suffered a split-decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum in the night’s co-headlining bout. As a result of potential damage sustained in the contest, both fighters will be forced to seek doctor’s clearance on potential right foot injuries or sit out 180 days before returning to active competition, per commission officials.
