After winning his way to a memorable month of January with pair of unanimous-decision victories over Myles Jury and Benson Henderson, long-time contender Donald Cerrone had finally been given his chance to earn a shot at the lightweight title in a scheduled-showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 187.
But just days after proudly claiming to be ”100 percent” in an interview with MMA Junkie following a long layoff resulting from last summer’s knee injury, Nurmagomedov’s now notorious knee troubles struck again late last month, and Cerrone’s opportunity vanished.
