Kayla Harrison doesn’t seem quite ready to follow in the footsteps of fellow Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey.
Harrison retired from judo competition after winning her second gold medal on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro. The 26-year-old Ohioan initially captured gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, making her the first American to earn a gold medal in judo.
Not surprisingly, Harrison’s prowess has prompted speculation about a transition to mixed martial arts, where Rousey — a judo bronze medalist in 2008 — has become one of the sport’s biggest stars.
For now at least, Harrison doesn’t appear interested in making the move to the Octagon, and she already seems to have a pretty good handle on how things work in the MMA world, where the line between sport and entertainment is consistently blurred.
