After a unanimous decision loss to Cub Swanson — his second straight under the UFC banner — longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Tatsuya Kawajiri wanted one more chance to prove he was indeed a UFC-caliber fighter.
He even called for a Frankie Edgar fight at UFC 205.
That bout instead went to featherweight power puncher Jeremy Stephens, who meets “The Answer” on Nov. 12, 2016 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. Probably one of many reasons Kawajiri is now asking for his UFC release.
“After rounds of thoughts, I've asked to be released from the UFC,” Kawajiri wrote on Twitter.
