Weight-cutting issues are indeed the reason Sijara Eubanks won’t be competing for the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight title on Friday.
Eubanks posted a statement Thursday to Instagram explaining that she was removed from her The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale championship matchup against Nicco Montaño after suffering “kidney failure” while cutting weight early Thursday morning. Eubanks noted that she has “cut more weight than most male fighters” in the past, but ultimately things didn’t work out this time, as she was transported to the hospital in the early morning hours and pulled from the card.
