Since the day the Ultimate Fighting Championship was born into existence, the threat of the submission has had an undeniable presence in the sport. It started with Royce Gracie at UFC 1 and progressed from there. Strikers and wrestlers were forced to adapt, to learn to defend their necks, their arms and their legs for fear of having a limb snapped, a joint blown apart or the blood cut off from their brains.
