Two years ago in the same building, Shawn Porter lost to Keith Thurman for the WBA welterweight championship, but he refused to have the same fate on Saturday night.
Porter (29-2-1, 17 KOs) fought tooth and nail with gritty Danny Garcia for 12 rounds, each giving as good he received. The two warriors traded serious leather throughout their encounter, which was an entertaining phone booth-style brawl almost from the start.
Garcia (35-2, 20 KOs) took control of the fight early by moving nicely and picking Porter apart as he came in from the outside. However, the Las Vegas-based fighter eventually found a rhythm and forced “Sift” to brawl on the inside.
