Though it didn't go off without a hitch, the Bellator 142: "Dynamite 1" hybrid mixed martial arts (MMA) and GLORY kickboxing event last night (Sat. Sept. 19, 2015) inside SAP Center in San Jose, California was a resounding spectacle.
One of its highlighted competitors, and eventual winner of Bellator's one-night, four-man Light Heavyweight tournament, Phil Davis submitted Emanuel Newton and knocked out Francis Carmont both in the first round for the right to face the evening's star, reigning 205-pound champion Liam McGeary at a later date.
McGeary, an undefeated British striker, won his 11th consecutive MMA bout by pulling off an unforgettable inverted triangle choke late in the first round of his main event spot after challenger Tito Ortiz escaped an armbar attempt.
