Roy Nelson has issued a statement apologizing for the incident with referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy.
Following his knockout win over Antonio Silva at UFC Fight Night 95 back on Sept. 24, Nelson kicked McCarthy on the butt and gave him the bird in protest for not stopping the bout sooner. Last month, ‘Big Country’ was suspended for nine months and fined $24,000 for his behavior by the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA.
However, the STJDMMA gave the 40-year-old heavyweight a chance to lessen his punishment to a six-month suspension and $13,700 fine if he formally apologized to McCarthy inside the Octagon or during some form of press conference.
