Rousimar Palhares’ (pictured) temporary suspension just got a lot more permanent. During Thursday’s Nevada Athletic Commission hearing, the controversial welterweight was banned two years and docked $40,000 for holding a fight-ending kimura too long after opponent Jake Shields submitted in their August 1 bout at WSOF 22.
After Palhares caught Shields in a kimura in the third round of their title tilt, Shields repeatedly tapped Palhares’ butt at least five times to surrender. Palhares finally stopped cranking when referee Steve Mazzagatti slapped him on his back six times with both hands and yelled at him to stop.
Shields then sucker punched Palhares in the face after he finally let go.
