As expected, former World Series of Fighting welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares (pictured) and Jake Shields were issued temporary suspensions for unsportsmanlike conduct for their August 1 title tilt at WSOF 22.
The Nevada Athletic Commission levied the preliminary penalty during Thursday’s meeting. A disciplinary hearing will be held, likely in mid-September, to finalize punishment.
Palhares is being accused of holding a fight-ending kimura too long after Shields submitted, and after referee Steve Mazzagatti told him to release the lock. Shields then sucker punched Palhares in the face after he finally let go.
Shields also accused the controversial Brazilian of eye-gouging him on two separate occasions during their scrap, but that was not mentioned during today’s gathering.
