Rory MacDonald was not competitive in the champion vs champion bout against Gegard Mousasi that served as the Bellator 206 headliner at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday night.
The welterweight titlist never got going in his bid to become a two-division champion, as he was repeatedly thwarted by his opponent’s jab before being brutally battered by elbows and punches en route to a TKO stoppage at the 3:23 mark of round two.
“The Red King” inexplicably set himself up for failure by rolling underneath Mousasi for a takedown attempt – or possibly a leg lock -- in the second frame.
