The UFC women's bantamweight champion will star in a reprisal of 1980s cult classic Road House, her agent Brand Slater of William Morris Endeavor told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. Rousey will be in the lead role that Patrick Swayze held in the original.
MGM owns the project and selected Rousey for the starring role, but a screenplay still needs to be written. Rousey reached out to Swayze's widow, Lisa Nieme, to get approval for the part and received it, Slater said. Swayze died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
"Road House," which came out in 1989, featured Swayze as a bouncer who protected a small Missouri town from a corrupt businessman.
