The UFC confirmed the matchup Tuesday via Twitter.
It is an interesting pairing considering both fighters train out of the famed American Top Team squad in Florida.
Lawler is perfect through his past five outings, with the last pair being of the title defense variety. Some were thinking he would face Carlos Condit in an immediate rematch following January’s controversial split decision win, but it appears the UFC decided to feed “Ruthless” some fresh blood instead.
Woodley has won four of his past five fights, including two straight. He has disposed of three of those victims via some form of knockout.
