Perhaps lost in the shuffle of the massive UFC 189 event was the retirement of Robbie Lawler's striking coach Matt Pena, who had cornered "Ruthless" for his last 26 professional bouts.
Pena recently shared his memories of seeing Lawler go from being a "wild" fighter to a student of the "sweet science" of boxing with the rewards that come from patience.
"When I first got him, he was wild. He wanted to go out there and go balls to the wall until something broke. And it worked for a while and was exciting as hell for a lot of those first fights.
