The pesky injury buy has apparently taken its biggest bite of the new year. According to multiple reports, including Globo, a broken foot will force lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (pictured) out of his highly anticipated bout against featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196.
The UFC has yet to address the report.
If this report holds true, it is unknown if the UFC will keep McGregor in the March 5 event against another opponent or save their biggest cash cow for another day.
This wasn’t just your everyday matchup, but one with historical significance. McGregor was looking to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two different belts at the same time.
