Longtime Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed a decree granting Roy Jones Jr. Russian citizenship.
On August 20, 2015, American boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. visited Sevastopol, where he had the opportunity to drink tea with Russian president Vladimir Putin. The retired boxer also had another interest in mind apart from meeting Putin: he wanted to become a Russian citizen.
During their meeting, Roy explained to the Russian president why he believed he was a valuable asset to the Russian economy and wanted t start a business there. The explanation must have been satisfactory, as the it was announced a few weeks later on the official Kremlin website that Putin had signed a decree to grant Roy Jones Russian citizenship.
