Opinion: Why Velasquez vs. Werdum is a bad idea... at this time

After his third fight over the course of 2016, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic wants to take a break. I’m not about to rip on him for that. He has stayed busy and kept the division moving along which is more than we can say about other champions that will not be mentioned. But it does create quite the conundrum: What to do with Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum?

Werdum has been jockeying for the right to face Miocic for the title since picking up his own win at UFC 203 over Travis Browne. It was on that same card that Miocic defended his belt against Alistair Overeem, meaning that their timelines would likely match up perfectly.
