The Viacom-owned promotion announced the lightweight as the newest addition to its stable of lightweight fighters Wednesday. Terms of Newell’s contract were not immediately available, but he was in talks for a multi-fight contract following a successful debut this past month at Bellator 225.
A call to Bellator President Scott Coker was not immediately returned.
Newell’s first-round submission over Corey Browning in his promotional debut brought more career momentum after a high-profile loss on Dana White’s Contender Series. Newell had overcome opposition from UFC President Dana White to get the opportunity, and a decision loss dashed his hopes at fighting in the octagon any time soon.
