For the last year, Tony Ferguson has been campaigning aggressively for a shot at the UFC lightweight title. He was supposed to get one against Khabib Nurmagomedov for an interim belt, but Nurmagomedov withdrew from the bout on fight week and Ferguson was left wanting. Now, come October, Ferguson will finally get the title shot he’s been chasing, though it might not yield the results he’s really after.
At UFC 216, Ferguson takes on Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight championship, and should he win the belt, Ferguson would seem to move to the head of the line to face current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, whenever McGregor decides to return to MMA.
