Last month, Jon Jones was finally handed down his suspension from USADA for failing an in-competition drug test at his rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214: 15-months retroactive to last July. While that is a long suspension, it’s considerably less than the four years he could have received as a repeat offender and still shorter than the two-year suspension most envisioned would be forthcoming. But Jones availed himself of a little-used loophole to knock off approximately 30 months, a clause where the fighter in question may provide USADA with “Substantial Assistance” that brings to light other instances of doping in the sport.
