After dominating welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares for the opening rounds of their title bout at WSOF 22, Shields was caught in a nasty kimura midway through round three. Shields tapped, but Palhares created controversy once again by appearing to hold the submission a tad longer than called for.
Shields isn't happy about the shoulder, but he's especially upset about Palhares 'gouging' his eyes throughout the bout.
While mounted on Palhares during the second round Shields loudly and repeatedly complained to referee Steve Mazzagatti that the Brazilian was gouging his eyes. Mazzagatti broke the action but only to warn Palhares that he'd take a point if it continued.
