When the call came in on less than a month’s notice to take on one of the flyweight division’s up-and-coming contenders, Montana De La Rosa didn’t hesitate for a second.
De La Rosa facse Taila Santos this Saturday at UFC Vegas 16, stepping in for Maryna Moroz who was forced to withdraw from the originally scheduled booking. The event takes place at UFC APEX and will be headlined by a middleweight matchup between Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori.
Ahead of her seventh octagon appearance, De La Rosa spoke with MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and discussed how the matchup came to be, gaining confidence in her game despite losing a unanimous decision to Viviane Araujo in her most recent bout, why she wasn’t able to train at Elevation Fight Team and how she worked with head coach Eliot Marshall daily via Zoom, training with fellow flyweight contender Lauren Murphy for the camp, and how she sees the fight playing out.
