MMA fans should lower expectations before watching Mayweather-Pacquiao

For decades, boxing rivaled baseball as the most popular sport in this part of the world, local fighters often lived as legends in their hometowns, and everyone from grandmas to governors were familiar with the Jack Dempseys and Joe Fraziers of their day.

While the sport had been losing momentum throughout the 1980’s, with the exception of few highly-touted disappointments, big-time boxing took it’s last breath on February 10th, 1990 when Buster Douglas shocked the world with a knockout-win over Mike Tyson.
