After going more than four years with out suffering a defeat in the Octagon, Max Holloway had a rough campaign in 2019 – at least by his standards.
“Blessed” lost for the second time in his last three outings at UFC 245, dropping a unanimous decision to Alexander Volkanovski and relinquishing his featherweight crown in the process. In April, Holloway lost a five-round verdict to Dustin Poirier in a bid for the interim lightweight belt at UFC 236.
Judges scored Saturday’s contest 48-47, 48-47 and 50-45 in favor of Volkanovski, who battered Holloway with low kicks and never allowed Holloway to unleash his trademark volume.
