UFC president Dana White confirmed the news Friday with ESPN.com.
“Apparently he has head trauma,” White said. “His family is traveling to him now.”
White was unaware of where the accident occurred, but did say Hughes was helping a friend at the time. It is believed Hughes currently lives in Illinois.
It is unknown if Hughes was the driver of the vehicle.
White didn’t provide any further details regarding Hughes’ situation.
The UFC was quick to offer up their support for the UFC Hall of Famer.
