When news surfaced back in August that Ben Saunders had been released from the UFC, more than a few hardcore fans were shocked. “Killa B” had started his second UFC stint back in 2014, shortly after losing a Bellator tournament finals match to Douglas Lima. And his return to the then-Zuffa led promotion had been almost entirely successful.
Saunders grabbed the first successful Omoplata in UFC history with a victory over Chris Heatherly, and then followed it up with a quick injury TKO over Joe Riggs, and a fun back and forth contentious win over Kenny Robertson. Then he fought Patrick Cote.
