On Saturday at The O2 Arena in London, the corner of IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) threw in the towel during round 5 of his thrilling bout against middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). The fight was more competitive than expected, and it certainly had the pro-Brook crowd excited. Brook’s right eye was noticeably bothering him from rounds 3-5, and with Golovkin dominating him in the 5th, Brook’s corner called it off, and the cheers turned to boos.
Brook said in the post-fight interview that he believed he’d suffered a broken eye socket and said he was seeing “three or four” of Golovkin during the fight.
