John Lineker, a bantamweight who competed 16 times under the company’s banner since 2012, was released from the promotion. Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting following a report by MMAjunkie.
It’s still unclear why “Hands of Stone” was let go from the company.
Lineker (31-9) was recently slated to rematch Rob Font at UFC Greenville on June 22, but pulled out of contest hours before the official weigh-in after allegedly suffering a facial cut while losing weight.
The Brazilian brawler was booked in that fight days after going on social media with a strong message to the UFC, tweeting “I need to fight” and “if you don’t like me or my style just let me go”.
