April Fools is a cruel, cruel day. People think up the strangest pranks to play on each other, all in the name of fun. Sometimes it is indeed amusing, but a lot of the time it’s just an exercise in futility. So it should come as no surprise that when it comes to MMA, this day usually involves dream matches being “announced”, or top fighters saying they’re “retiring”, or something equally unlikely.
Enter John Kavanagh, the coach of Conor McGregor, who went for the low-hanging fruit with his April 1st tweet:
Obviously a few people bought it, as the tweet went viral and Kavanagh was trending in Ireland and the UK pretty quickly.
