The South Korean fighter came in 4.5 pounds over the flyweight limit at the official weigh-ins for her bout with Antonina Shevchenko at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale on Friday in Las Vegas. Kim, a former bantamweight who successfully made the flyweight mark in her last two outings, was stepping in as a short-notice replacement on less than one month’s notice for an injured Ashlee Evans-Smith.
Shevchenko, an accomplished kickboxer recently signed off of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, weighed in at 124.5 pounds.
The bout will proceed as scheduled and Kim will be fined 30 percent of her purse, MMA Fighting confirmed with sources.
