After Alexander Gustafsson’s five-round thrashing of Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109, ‘The Mauler’ thought that he had earned enough ammunition to challenge the winner of last Saturday’s light heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220.
Cormier won that bout via second-round TKO, defending his title for the third time and cementing himself as a top-five ranked pound-for-pound talent.
The reigning champion, however, has decided to move back up to heavyweight to challenge Stipe Miocic in hopes of becoming a simultaneous two-division champ - a feat accomplished only by Irish sensation Conor McGregor, who captured the featherweight and lightweight world titles at UFC 194 and UFC 205.
