Fans of old-school striker vs. grappler matchups rejoice: the Ultimate Fighting Championship revealed Tuesday morning that Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Gunnar Nelson will square off against knockout artist Albert Tumenov on May 8 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, at UFC Fight Night “Overeem vs. Arlovski.”
The welterweight pairing was announced on UFC Europe’s official Twitter account.
Nelson, 14-2 (5-2 UFC), last saw action in a one-sided defeat against Demian Maia at UFC 194 on Dec. 12. The 27-year-old SBG Ireland product has never lost back-to-back fights.
Tumenov (17-2, 5-1 UFC) has won five straight bouts since dropping his Octagon debut against Ildemar Alcantara.
