Gennady Golovkin isn't going to let negotiations with Canelo Alvarez sideline him - he intends to fight in September either way.
The saga continues. In the wake of Canelo Alvarez's knockout win over Amir Khan, a bout between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin appeared closer than ever. Despite the fact that Canelo dropped the WBC middleweight title and it was awarded to Golovkin by default, it appeared that negotiations were ongoing for a bout, possibly in September.
According to GGG's promoter Tom Loeffler, Golovkin will definitely be fighting in September - and it doesn't matter whether it's Alvarez or another fighter across the ring from him (via Boxing Scene):
"Canelo is certainly the number one choice but at the same time if a fight with (Billy Joe) Saunders is makeable, that's a great fight.
