Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Daniel Jacobs skips same-day weigh-ins, can’t win IBF title

Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) will have one less belt he can win from Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. GGG holds the WBC, WBA, and IBF middleweight titles (as well as the IBO, which is really minor), but Jacobs is no longer eligible to take the IBF one.

As is the annoyance when dealing with boxing’s sanctioning bodies, there are different rules to adhere to for things such as weight cutting. For instance, the WBC has 30-day weigh-ins, where fighters cannot be 10% above the contracted weight, followed by the 7-day weigh-ins, where that number is reduced to 5%.
