Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson could soon battle with their spots in the welterweight rankings on the line.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that the two top contenders have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 264 on July 10. A location is still to be determined for the pay-per-view event.
ESPN was first to report the matchup, citing UFC President Dana White.
This will be Burns’ first fight since seeing a six-fight win streak snapped by a TKO loss to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 258 in February.
