The jiu-jitsu specialist took on Sung Jong Lee in his third professional fight at ONE Championship’s event Friday in Singapore, showcasing his improvement in the striking area, but the stoppage came on the ground.
After exchanging blows with the South Korean in the opening round, Tonon took him down in the second stanza and immediately went for a guillotine choke. It appeared that Lee would be able to escape, but Tonon had the choke locked again and forced him to tap.
Tonon, who said his striking “was okay, a little better than last time,” now holds a 3-0 MMA record with a trio of submission wins under the ONE Championship banner.
