There was something in the air on Saturday night at UFC 188, and it wasn’t what you’d think. Change was in the air of Mexico City, specifically at the Arena Cuidad de Mexico, and it struck in the UFC Heavyweight Title unification bout between champion Cain Velasquez and his interim replacement, Fabricio Werdum. While Velasquez was able to push the pace and win the first round, his much vaunted cardio seemed to fail him going into the 2nd round. This is where Werdum took control, bringing his improved striking to bear and using it help drive Velasquez into attempting an ill-advised takedown in the 3rd round.
