Although not officially announced, Fabricio Werdum was reportedly supposed to headline UFC’s upcoming event in Moscow, Russia. Seems like plans for that bout have been derailed, as the former heavyweight champion’s sample has been flagged by USADA for a potential anti-doping violation.
Werdum has since issued a statement on social media, noting that the drug test failure from last April 25, was from a urine sample he provided to USADA. The prohibited substance in question has yet to be revealed, but Werdum says he’s working to clear his name after this “misunderstanding.”
“Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance,” he wrote on Instagram in both English and Portuguese.
