A group of unknown assailants surrounded Egyptian wrestling champion Abdel-Latif Mohamed and assaulted him in an attack that resulted in his hospitalization.
According to local newspaper Al Masr Al Youm, the 22-year-old Greco-Roman champion was attacked outside a sports club in the Dakahlia Governorate north of Cairo, where he had just completed Friday morning practice. The assailants, who were brandishing switchblades, surrounded the athlete and mutilated his hand using their weapons.
While the extent of Mohamed’s injuries are yet to be determined, various local reports suggest he had several of his fingers chopped off by the thugs.
